Tax Fraud

ILLEGAL BUSINESS PRACTICES
ROB HOOSIERS OF $405 MILLION PER YEAR.

Construction tax fraud drains millions of dollars in tax revenue yearly, amounting to a $46,000 an hour loss for Indiana residents.

Stolen tax revenue not only damages the outreach of state-wide programs but also compromises your community’s safety and development.

Taken from the pockets of Hoosiers across the state:

  • 325 miles of resurfaced highways
  • 7,937 k-12 teachers
  • 8,100 ventilators for COVID-19 patients
  • 8,741 state troopers
  • 9,722 new jobs
  • 684, 121 PPE for healthcare workers

How does Tax Fraud Happen?

Tax fraud occurs when unscrupulous construction employers knowingly misclassify workers as independent contractors. Such employers pay workers in cash, off the books, or run other scams, gaining an illegal bidding advantage, and often hiring illegal immigrants for human trafficking. Laws requiring employers to pay workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, basic payroll taxes, wages, and overtime are evaded, leading to tax fraud and illegal worker exploitation.

CIP Indiana is dedicated to shutting down this destructive criminal activity and regaining lost tax revenue.
